Nazi symbols and Adolf Hitler's face featuring a red heart were put on Christmas tree decorations outside a town council office in Tuscany, sources said Tuesday.
The mayor of Montemurlo near Prato, Simone Calamai, voiced indignation at the stunt.
"It is an extremely serious episode that offends the values on which the Italian Republic was born, as well as our democracy," he said.
Calamai immediately called the police who removed the ten or so baubles.
