The annual report by Italy's
intelligence services to parliament said that the nation could
cope if gas supplies from Russia were suddenly cut off.
The report said Italy's structural, high-level reliance on gas
imports was a critical element for the security of national
supplies.
But it also noted that there is a "broad and diversified
importation capacity and storage infrastructure capable of
compensating the seasonal nature of demand as well as eventual
problems in the functioning of a gas pipeline or a
regasification terminal".
It said the system was able to satisfy very high levels of
demand "even in the case of the interruption of the main
importation infrastructure, that is the pipeline that transports
gas from Russia to the entry point at Tarvisio and, in 2021,
carried 38% of national demand".
