5-Star Movement (M5S) leader Giuseppe
Conte on Friday reiterated his opposition to Italy sending more
weapons to Ukraine as it fights Russian forces following
Moscow's decision to invade its neighbour.
"Our position is clear. Italy must focus its efforts on a
political solution," ex-premier Conte told an ANSA Forum.
"We have contributed by sending three lots of weapons.
"Now it seems to us that our contribution is more previous on
the diplomatic front.
"I have been extremely worried over the last 100 days (of war),"
he added.
"We didn't deserve this war in Europe after over two years with
the pandemic.
"We must concentrate all our efforts on negotiations to force
everyone, not just the parties in conflict, to sit around a
table until a honourable agreement is signed that features the
cease of hostilities, the withdrawal of the Russian troops, a
dignified solution".
