Italian race walker Massimo Stano added the world title to his 20km Olympic crown with triumph in the 35km walk on the last day of the athletics world championships in Eugene on Sunday.
"I dearly wanted to win this world title to show that (the)
Tokyo (Olympics) was not a fluke and I could pull it off at a
different distance," the 30-year-old told Rai television.
"In my head I knew it was the only possible outcome".
It was Italy's first gold of the championships and its second
medal after Elena Vallortigara took bronze in the women's high
jump
