A Russian governor's son who was arrested at Milan's Malpensa Airport on Monday on a US warrant told a court on Friday that he opposed being extradited to the United States.
Artem Uss, son of the governor of the Krasnoyarsk region,
Alexander Uss, is accused of dodging sanctions,
military-technology contraband and money laundering along with
six other people, including Yury Orekhov, who was arrested in
Germany.
Given than Uss has opposed the warrant, it will take several
weeks to complete the extradition process.
The 40-year-old's attorneys are set to request he be put under
house arrest instead of jail detention, sources said.
The Kremlin on Friday said it condemned that arrest of the two
Russian citizens on US warrants.
"Russia's diplomatic missions will do their best to protect the
interests of Uss, who is being held in Italy," said Russian
government spokesperson Dmitri Peskov.
