Sports Minister Andrea Abodi on Wednesday met with Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) President Giovanni Malagò and Italian Gymnastics Federation (FGI) Chief Gherardo Tecchi following accusations of emotional abuse within the nation's rhythmic gymnastics discipline.
Prosecutors in Brescia are looking into alleged psychological abuse that two sisters who have left the sport were subjected to by coaches in relation to their weight and physical appearance following a complaint by their mother.
This comes after two former members of the national team, Nina Corradini and Anna Basta, recently told La Repubblica that they suffered humiliation and pressure in relation to their weight at a rhythmic gymnastics academy.
"Medals are source of national pride but there will never be a medal that can make up for unsuitable behaviour," Abodi said after Wednesday's meeting.
