Premier Giorgia Meloni said Tuesday
that it is necessary to reflect on the relationship between
violence and religion, "especially in relation to immigrant
women".
"Physical mistreatment, clothing limitations, bans on going to
school, forced marriages, abuse and homicides get justified by
the perpetrators because they are considered to be in compliance
with the religion or culture of the country of origin," Meloni
said, adding that this was "unacceptable".
The premier was speaking in a video message to event on violence
against women (Non più sole - La drammatica attualità della
violenza contro le donne) at the Lower House.
