Italy is not part of the debate about
Ukraine's request to send German Leopard 2 tanks to help fight
off the Russian invasion, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said
Monday.
Berlin has so far not agreed to send the formidable fighting
machines and has urged countries that have them to also not do
so, although Poland has said it will ignore that request. Italy
"is not part of the debate on sending tanks to Ukraine", Tajani
said on the sidelines of the foreign affairs council in
Brussels, confirming that the issue was discussed at the meeting
of the 27 but will continue at a "bilateral" level.
"Italy is now committed together with the French to the delivery
of anti-missile defence systems and the work continues in that
direction," the foreign minister added.
