The Italian National Institute of
Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics (OGS) said Tuesday that
its "Laura Bassi" icebreaker has touched the southernmost part
of Antarctic ever reached by a ship, getting to a latitude of
78° 44.280S.
The feat was made during the 38th Italian expedition for the
National Antarctic Research Programme (PNRA).
