A Puglia mafia boss escaped from a
Sardinian prison at the weekend.
Marco Raduano, a 39-year-old boss in the Gargano Mafia who was
serving 19 years for mafia crimes, managed to get a key for the
courtyard of the Badu 'e Carros Prison at Nuoro, let himself
down the exterior wall on several tied-up bed sheets, and make
his getaway two hours before guards awoke to discover him gone.
"It was going to happen sooner or later, the prison is full of
holes," said Giovanni Conteddu of the Osapp Nuoro orison union
chapter.
Deputy Justice Minister Francesco Paolo Sisto said Monday that
"it was a very well prepared escape".
A manhunt has been launched on the Italian island ever since
Raduano broke jail in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Sisto said an inspection of the Badu 'e Carros Prison had also
been ordered.
