It is not right to let Russian
mercenary group Wagner run rampant in Africa, driving migrants
to try to reach Italy, Premier Giorgia Meloni said Monday.
"The more people who leave, the more people they put in the
hands of cynical traffickers, the more there is a risk that
something will go wrong: I don't think this can ever be the
right, humane and responsible way to deal with this.
"Perhaps it would be easier to put our heads in the sand, to let
mafiosi decide who should come to us, to let only those who have
money to pay those mafiosi come to us, to let Wagner's
mercenaries and fundamentalists continue to take hold in
Africa," said Meloni at the presentation of a book on Pope
Francis.
