Premier Giorgia Meloni on Friday
hailed her government's abolition of the 'citizenship wage'
basic income for poor families and job seekers saying
replacement mechanisms it had set up were already bearing fruit.
"Where is the slump in the economy and employment?," she asked a
Friuli regional election audience via videolink to Udine. "We
have 100,000 new jobs at the beginning of the year and 'I'll
tell you more: our choice to abolish the citizenship income for
those who want to work is also bearing fruit: many people are
working and will grow much more than if they had stayed at home
to receive the income: I uphold this choice".
