The migrant state of emergency called
by the government Tuesday will allow for prompt responses,
government sources said after cabinet greenlit the move.
The declaration of a state of emergency makes it possible to
ensure more effective and timely responses in terms of the
management of migrants and their accommodation on national
territory, said the government sources at the end of the cabinet
meeting, pointing out that the number of landings is much higher
than in the past and the government is responding promptly by
declaring a state of emergency throughout the country for a
period of six months.
For the activation and start-up of the first urgent measures,
the same sources add, 5 million euros have been allocated from
the National Emergencies Fund.
With the state of emergency it will be possible to implement
faster procedures and actions to offer migrants reception
solutions in a short time with adequate standards, th sources
went on, stressing that the Civil Protection and the Italian Red
Cross will also be involved with their experience and equipment.
At the same time, the same sources emphasise, the structures
aimed at the repatriation of those not entitled to stay in Italy
(CPRs) will be increased and strengthened, enhancing
identification and expulsion activities.
