Rescuers on Friday recovered the
bodies of three mountain guide cadets who went missing on
Thursday after their roped party was hit by an avalanche in Val
di Rhemes in the northwest Val d'Aosta region.
The bodies of Alpine skiing champion Lorenzo Holzknecht, 39, ski
instructor Sandro Dublanc, 44, and finance police officer Elia
Meta, 37, were found buried under snow early Friday morning and
lifted by rescue helicopter to Corrado Gex airport in Saint
Christophe.
Their instructor, 49-year-old Matteo Giglio from Val d'Aosta,
survived the avalanche and managed to get down to the valley and
raise the alarm.
