President Sergio Mattarella on
Tuesday told the players involved in Wednesday night's Italian
Cup Final between Inter Milan and Fiorentina that he, too, was
an impartial referee in Italian political life.
"I will await the result with complete impartiality not only
because this is my role that requires me, if anything, to cheer
for the referees and not for the teams, but also because of what
I have said," speaking of loyalty and fair play, said Mattarella
in a brief speech at the Quirinale while receiving the teams and
officials of Inter and Fiorentina, who will face each other
Wednesday night in Rome for the Coppa Italia final.
