A wage replacement tool has been
developed to support seasonal agricultural workers affected by
the recent flooding and landslides in Emilia Romagna,
Agriculture and Food Sovereignty Minister Francesco Lollobrigida
said on Wednesday.
The support mechanism for fixed-term employees on affected farms
has been developed "in agreement with the ministry of labor,
Lollobrigida told the Lower House during question time on the
initial response to the emergency in the northeastern region.
15 people are known to have died in last week's flooding and
landslides, which also caused widespread damage to crops and
livestock in one of the most important agricultural areas in the
country.
Farmers' association Coldiretti has said more than 5,000 farms
have been destroyed by the flooding in the region, while road
closures due to landslides has complicated the delivery of food
and water to isolated animals.
