Jose Mourinho's AS Roma suffered heartbreak in the Europa League final in Budapest on Wednesday when they lost 4-1 on penalties to Sevilla after a 1-1 draw.
Roma made the brighter start and Argentina forward Paulo Dybala
deservedly put them in front with a coolly taken goal in the
35th minute.
The Spanish side came back strongly at the end of the first half
and the start of the second and they equalized with a pinch of
luck, with Gianluca Mancini turning the ball into his own net as
he tried to cut out a cross.
There were no more goals in regulation or extra time and the
game went to a shoot-out.
Mancini and Roger Ibanez missed their penalties and Gonzalo
Montiel scored the decisive spot kick for Sevilla at the second
attempt - Roma's Rui Patrizio's saved the first attempt but the
referee ordered it be retaken because the goalkeeper moved too
early.
