Italy on Monday said it opposed an EU
ministerial agreement on a new fishing package in the Union.
Agriculture and Fisheries Undersecretary Luigi D'Eramo, in his
speech to the ongoing EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council in
Luxembourg, said Italy opposes the adoption of the Council's
conclusions on the EU fishing package, taking into account "the
unanimous position of the 13th Agriculture Commission of the
Chamber of Deputies (lower house), which on 20 June voted a
document" on the "EU plan for sustainable and resilient
fishing", in which "a negative assessment of the European
Commission's proposal emerges" and the request for a "social and
economic impact assessment".
D'Eramo told the farm and fisheries ministers that Rome was
taking this step "with regret".
