Employers' associations and trade
unions representatives are to meet at the labour ministry on
Thursday afternoon to examine existing measures and new
initiatives to tackle the health and safety risks associated
with the extreme heatwaves that Italy is enduring.
'We are closely following the evolution of weather conditions in
Italy and their impact on the working and production contexts:
health and safety in the workplace is a priority,' said Labour
Minister Marina Calderone.
The number of major Italian cities on red alert due to the
country's third heatwave of the summer climbed from 20 to 23 on
Wednesday, while the health ministry activated a helpline for
people to seek assistance and advice.
The extreme heat is set to ease slightly in the coming days,
with the number of cities on red alert dropping to 18 on
Thursday and Friday.
