Rome is to set up disinfestation of
rats around the Colosseum after tourist videos of the rodents
near the iconic monument went viral on the Internet.
"There are about seven million rats in the capital, meaning each
Roman has about 2.5 each, but some are more prominent than
others, which is why we are taking this action," said cultural
officials.
Rat catchers and killers will be employed in and around the
Colosseum after the videos were posted showing the animals
rummaging through discarded food wrappers, plastic bottles and
scraps of food in the vicinity of the Flavian Amphitheatre.
