One rail maintenance worker has died
every 100 days in the last five years in Italy, trade union CGIL
said Tuesday.
There has been a serious accident every 50 days in that period,
it added.
"These numbers describe a structural criticality of he rail
maintenance sector, which in our view requires urgent
intervention," CGIL told the House labour and transport
committees.
The union, Italy's biggest and most leftwing, was testifying on
last week's accident that killed five workers at Brandizzo near
Turin.
