Two drivers died and 25 migrants and
refugees were injured, some seriously, early Friday morning when
the coach they were travelling in collided head-on with a heavy
goods vehicle on the A1 motorway north of Rome.
The group of around 50 migrants and refugees was being
transferred from Porto Empedocle in Sicily to reception
facilities in the northern region of Piemonte having arrived by
sea on Lampedusa in recent days.
The drivers of the coach operated by Patti Tour based in the
Sicilian town of Favara, which has a contract with the Agrigento
prefecture, were aged 35 and 32.
The accident occurred around 2.30 am local time between Guido
Montecelio and the Roma Nord toll gate.
