A migrant deal between the EU and
Tunisia must be respected, Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister
Antonio Tajani said Monday.
Tajani was talking to the Italian med at the UN on EU High
Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep
Borrell's reservations on the accord.
He said the Memorandum of Understanding on stepping up
cooperation to curb migrant departures and the activities of
smuggling gangs in exchange for funding had been signed by the
European Commission and therefore must be respected.
The deal was sealed during a visit to Tunisia in mid-July by EC
chief Ursula von der Leyen, Premier Giorgia Meloni and Dutch PM
Mark Rutte.
