Bill Gates has bought Portofino
Castle, a famed landmark in the chic Ligurian Riviera resort,
local newspaper Il Secolo XIX reported Wednesday.
Gates, 67, the world's fourth-richest man, bought the property,
whose original name is Vila San Giorgio, through his Four
Seasons real-estate company, which he bought from Saudi Prince
Alwaleed bin Talal for $2.2 billion in 2021.
The 1,200 sq m property is split today into 12 mini-apartments
with a private lift that goes down to the beach below the
castle.
The Microsoft founder is said to have bought it to turn it into
a luxury hotel for his Four Seasons chain.
The villa is said to have cost Gates 50-60 million dollars.
He bought it from a Genoese insurance company.
