The father of Giulia Cecchettin, a
22-year-old student allegedly murdered by her 22-year-old ex
boyfriend, said Sunday that something must come out of the case
in terms of producing moves to stem gender violence and femicide
in Italy.
"Something has to come out of this affair. We as a family will
actively work to ensure that this does not happen again, because
other girls, other women (may suffer); I speak on behalf of
Elena (his other daughter, ed.) too, we will do something," Gino
Cecchettin told reporters Sunday evening after the arrest of the
suspect, Filippo Turetta, in Germany Sunday morning.
"We as a family," he added, in front of their small villa in
Vigonovo, "obviously we miss Giulia very much, you will have
seen it from my messages this morning, but we have to be strong
and look to the future".
