European Parliament President Roberta
Metsola said on the murder of 22-year-old Italian student Guilia
Cecchettin allegedly by her ex-boyfriend in opening the EP
session Monday that institutional blindness on femicide must
come to an end.
"Giulia Cecchettin is one of the very many examples of abuse and
femicide, of people killed for the mere fact of being women, it
is ignoble and unacceptable," said the EP chief.
"We need an adequate protection framework, more convictions of
attackers. We must stop the institutional blindness towards
femicides, it's already too late, there are no words to console
the families but justice if a support for those who are still
alive".
