Italy didnd't steal anything and
deserves to be in Euro 2024, coach Luciano Spalletti said on the
controversy regarding Roma defensive midfielder Bryan Cristante
and Chelsea left-winger Mykhailo Mudryk's alleged clash of legs
for an alleged penalty that was not given during the goalless
draw with Ukraine in Leverkusen Monday that qualified the
Azzurri for next year's continental championship in Germany.
"We did not steal anything, we did not only deserve it, but we
over-deserved to qualify for the European Championship", said
Spalletti, on the sidelines of the event "L'Europa di Domani" in
Rome, responding to the attacks of the foreign media on the
episode between Cristante and Mudryk not judged as a penalty.
"If one goes and extrapolates that episode to come against us
it's not right, without looking at the rest of the team's
performance," he added.
"The match was difficult because of the pressure it was under
and that episode may have been dubious, but certainly not as
clear-cut as many want to make it out to be. I'm sorry."
