A man was arrested by Carabinieri
police on Tuesday for allegedly beating to death his 66-year-old
wife with a baseball bat in the centre of Salsomaggiore Terme, a
town in the province of Parma, sources said.
The woman, a foreign national, was hit in the body and head in a
brutal attack at around 9:30 on Tuesday.
Italians turned out in force at the weekend for anti-femicide
marches and other events aimed at combatting gender-based
violence, a problem that has recently been highlighted by the
murder of 22-year-old Padua University student Giulia Cecchettin
by her ex-boyfriend in a case that caused widespread shock,
anger and dismay.
