Premier Giorgia Meloni said Thursday
she would "willingly commit" to a confrontation with centre-left
opposition Democratic Party (PD) leader Elly Schlein in view of
European Parliament elections in June.
"I willingly commit to a confrontation with Schlein," Meloni
told reporters at her end-of-year press conference in Rome.
"I think it is normal and right for the prime minister to hold a
confrontation with the leader of the opposition before the
campaign for the European elections," she added.
"I have never shirked and I will not do so this time," said
Meloni.
