A joint statement after an EU-Egypt
summit in Cairo Sunday said Egypt is a pillar of security in the
Mediterranean.
"The European Union recognises Egypt as a reliable partner and
its unique and vital geostrategic role as a pillar of security,
moderation and peace in the Mediterranean, Near East and African
region," the statement said.
"Egypt and the EU will continue to work to build a positive
agenda for prosperity and stability," it said.
"Egypt and the EU will continue to work on their commitments to
further promote democracy, fundamental freedoms and human
rights, gender equality and equal opportunities, as agreed in
the priorities of the partnership".
