The number of migrants to have
arrived in Italy via sea so far this year has dropped by more
than 50% with respect to the equivalent period in 2023,
according to Interior Ministry figures released on Sunday.
The ministry said 9,479 migrants landed in Italy between from
January 1 and March 22, compared to 20,364 in that timeframe
last year.
The figure was higher, however, than the 6,379 migrants that
landed in the equivalent period in 2022.
The ministry said 688 unaccompanied foreign minors had landed in
Italy so far this year, down from about 2,000 in the same period
in 2023.
