Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti
said Tuesday he thought 2024 would be a good year for Monte dei
Paschi di Siena (MPS) to find a new partner now the government
is divesting its controlling stake in the Tuscan lender, the
world's oldest continually trading bank.
"The incentive is ready,I think must be the good year for MPS,"
he told a press conference after the government approved the DEF
economic blueprint.
Giorgetti spoke after being asked whether this year could be the
right one to find a partner for the Sienese bank, considered the
'Cinderella' among Italian banks, now that the Treasury is
divesting its controlling stake.
