Bari mayor Antonio Decaro on Monday
pulled the job mandate of Budget Councillor Alessandro D'Adamo
after he weas placed under investigation in a EU fraud probe,
one of a string of probes that have hit the Puglia city's
Democratic Party (PD) led administration.
Several other PD councillors have been implicated in a mafia
vote buying case and the central government in Rome has sent
inspectors to see if the council has been infiltrated by the
Mob.
The probes have undermined a leftwing unity drive with the
populist 5-Star Movement (m5S) whose leader, ex premier Giuseppe
Conte, pulled out of local and European election primaries
saying the PD had to clean itself up, spurring the ire of many
PD members.
