A 42-year-old Egyptian bricklayer
died in hospital Monday where he had been admitted on 24 April
due to injuries sustained in a work-related accident at a
construction site in Monza, the latest in a spate of fatal
workplace accidents in Italy that has left at least 125 men dead
since the start of the year.
The man had been hit in the head by a piece of iron from a crane
that had suddenly come loose and was transported to the San
Gerardo hospital in Monza in serious condition.
The causes of the accident are still being investigated by the
public prosecutor's office and ATS work safety technicians.
Italy is enduring a spate of workplace accident deaths and
unions have struck saying 'enough is enough' after seven workers
were killed in an explosion at a hydroelectric power station
near Bologna earlier this month.
