Italians are getting married five
years later than they were 20 years ago, with the average age of
tying the knot for men being 36.5, up from 31.7 in 2002, and
women 33.6, compared to 28.9 in 2002, Istat's annual report on
2022 data said Wednesday.
"Today's young people have increasingly protracted transitions
into adulthood," said the report form the national stats agency.
In 2022, 67.4% of 18-34 year-olds were living in a family,
almost eight points higher than in 2002 (59.7%).
Those figures rise to around 75% in Campania and Puglia, Istat
said.
The age at which women have their first bay has also risen, to
31.6 years, against 29.7 in 2002.
