Sentences on four African pushers
were reduced Wednesday in the second appeal trial for the death
of Desirèe Mariottini, a 16-year-old girl from Cisterna di
Latina south of Rome who died on 19 October 2018 in an abandoned
building in Via dei Lucani in the San Lorenzo area of Rome.
The judges of the Court of Assizes of Appeal imposed 22 years on
Mamadou Gara, sentenced to life imprisonment in the first appeal
trial.
Alinno Chima, who had been sentenced to 27 years, was sentenced
to 26 years, and Brian Minthe, already sentenced to 24 years, to
18 years.
The three, all citizens of African origin, were found guilty of
murder, sexual assault and drug dealing, according to their
positions.
They were convicted of sexually abusing their victim and leaving
her to die of an overdose.
Mariottini's murder gained big headlines in Italy.
Prosecutors had requested life imprisonment for all four men.
