Former Juventus centre-forward and Spain skipper Alvaro Morata told Marca Wednesday that Italy was his bugbear, having beaten La Roya in the last 16 at Euro 2016 and on penalties in the semis three years ago when the Azzurri would go on to beat England in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley, again on penalties.
Italy play the Red Furies, one of the tournament favourites in Gelsenkirchen Thursday night.
"The Azzurri are my bugbear, I've met them in all my Euro games and they've always eliminated me," said the 31-year-old Madrid-born Atletico Madrid striker, who got the first in Spain's 3-0 demolition of Croatia last time out.
Morata also picked up an Italian wife during his time in Turin, model and influencer Alice Campello, who has given him four children.
Asked who they were rooting for, he told the Spanish sports daily". Alice certainly for Spain, but the wife and kids won't be at the stadium, just to make sure".
He said he was confident about the result.
"Italy has hurt us in the past, but we're going to win this one".
