The transport ministry said Thursday
that Milan's Malpensa Airport has officially been named after
late three-time ex premier and media mogul Silvio Berlusconi.
Milan's centre left Mayor Giuseppe Sala and leftwing parties
have complained about the decision saying Berlusconi, who died
in June last year aged 86, was, and remains, a divisive figure.
The ministry said that an order by civil aviation authority Enac
renaming it Milano Malpensa - Silvio Berlusconi.International
Airport has immediate effect.
The statement added that Deputy Premier and Transport Minister
Matteo Salvini, the leader of the right-wing League party,
expressed "great satisfaction".
