Covid-19 cases over the past week
have registered a slight increase, the director of prevention at
the health ministry Francesco Vaia said on Friday, commenting
weekly figures on the virus's trend in Italy.
"We observe a further, slight increase of Covid cases and
hospitalizations.
"However, they remain essentially under control: the important
thing today is to protect the frail, starting with the elderly,
oncologic patients and the immunosuppresed", said Vaia.
Overall, 9,000 new infections were reported, up 66% over the
past week, the health ministry said.
