Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister
Antonio Tajani and his Iraqi counterpart Fouad Hussein have
expressed strong concern over growing tensions in the Middle
East threatening the whole region.
In talks held a day after Tajani summoned an online conference
of G7 foreign ministers to discuss the situation, Italy and Iraq
renewed they commitment to engage in all the necessary efforts
to prevent a regional escalation and urged the sides involved to
engage in dialogue and diplomatic efforts to reduce tension and
allow a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
The two ministers have agreed to remain in close contact, also
in view of the Mediterranean Dialogues scheduled to take place
in Rome in November.
The talks following the videoconference of foreign ministers of
the G7, of which Italy holds the rotating presidency, were part
of numerous contacts on a political level that are ongoing to
discuss the situation in the Middle East.
