Gianmarco Tamberi said Friday that
Saturda night's Olympic high jump final, where he is defending
his joint title from three years ago at Tokyo 2020, would be
"the event of my life" and that he had "fire inside" after
recovering from a recent fever and the side effects of kidney
stones.
Marche born Tamberi, 32, who tied for the gold last time with
Qatari athlete Mutaz Essa Barshim, said he has regained his
emotional charge ahead of the high jump final in Paris 2024,
following colic in recent days.
"This is it - was the Tokyo Olympian's Instagram post .
"Tomorrow 7pm, the competition of my life. All for one day...All
for this moment....I have the fire inside and can't wait
tomorrow to explode. Just over 24 hours to what I hope with all
my heart I will remember for the rest of my life as one of the
best nights ever! Thank you all for your support, I feel all
