Between June 2026 and June 2027,
Italy will be obliged to examine a maximum number of 16,032
asylum applications received through the new border procedure
established by the reform of the EU Pact - the highest quota in
the EU, amounting to 26.7 per cent of the total, a report said
Saturday.
In 2027-2028, for Rome, the number will rise to 24,048, the
report said.
The figures emerged from a report on the annual ceiling of
requests to be screened by border procedure for EU countries
published in the Official Journal.
Countries will have to establish an adequate capacity in terms
of reception and human resources.
Once the quota of applications to be screened has been reached,
the solidarity mechanism is triggered.
