Some 18 police officers have accused
of brutality in alleged beatings of drug addicts and homeless
foreigners at police HQ in Verona, local prosecutors said after
closing a probe into the case, a move which normally precedes
indictment requests, local daily L'Arena reported Wednesday.
They are suspected of torture, injuries, misrepresentation in
public office and abuse of role, the paper said.
This is the final outcome of the investigation that led in June
2023 to the arrest of five police officers, believed to be the
group responsible for the beatings at the Questura, and the
involvement of 17 others who allegedly turned a blind eye to the
violence.
Deputy prosecutors Carlo Boranga and Chiara Bisso excluded from
the list officer Federico Tomaselli, whose position, like that
of another colleague, has changed and is probably going to be
shelved.
Among those under investigation for torture are Filippo Failla
Rifici, Roberto Da Rold and D.B., who is no longer on duty.
Two other suspects, Loris Colpini and Alessandro Migliore, are
in a fast-track .
