Snow cannons are now being used to
spray water on tourists hiking or biking in the Valtellina as
Italy's heatwave also hits mountain areas.
The order to turn the cannons to refreshing use was given by the
local ski-lift chief at Aprica near Sondrio, Domenico
Cioccarelli.
He said the free service had been "greatly appreciated" by
cyclists, hikers and other tourists.
