Termini Imerese prosecutors placed an
additional two Bayesian crew members under investigation,
British ship engineer Tim Parker Eaton and sailor Matthew
Griffiths, who was on watch duty on the night the luxury yacht
Bayesian sank off the coast of Porticello on August 19,
investigative sources said Wednesday.
Termini Imerese prosecutors investigating the shipwreck in which
seven people died, including the boat's owner, British tycoon
Mike Lynch, also placed under investigation the yacht's capitain
James Cutfield, 51, who pleaded no contest and declined to reply
to questions from State attorneys on Tuesday.
The ship engineer is being probed on charges of suspected
multiple negligent manslaughter and causing a shipwreck for
possibly failing to activate security systems to close the
boat's hatches and doors, which could have caused the engine
room to flood, provoking a black out and contributing to the
shipwreck
Meanwhile Griffiths, who was on night watch on the cockpit,
should have allegedly warned about the arrival of the violent
weather event that led to the ship sinking, investigative
sources say.
Like the other two crew members who have been placed under
investigation, the 22-year-old sailor also faces charges of
suspected multiple negligent manslaughter and causing a
shipwreck.
