MEP Manfred Weber, the president of
the European People's Party (EPP) and the leader of the EPP
group in the European Parliament, will meet Italian Premier
Giorgia Meloni in Rome on Wednesday, EPP sources have said,
without further elaborating on the German politician's agenda.
Rome daily La Repubblica first reported about the meeting,
saying it was aimed at discussing an excessive deficit procedure
and a request for more flexibility over Italy's draft budget.
Weber was invited to Rome by Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister
Antonio Tajani, leader of the Forza Italia party which belongs
to the EPP, and the pair are scheduled to meet on Wednesday
night for dinner, according to well-informed sources.
