The bodies of a 45-year-old suicidal
woman and her three-year-old daughter missing since Friday were
found Sunday on a small island in a northern Italian river not
far from a bridge she is believed to have thrown herself off
with the girl after leaving a suicide note.
Susanna Recchia left a five-page letter on the table at home at
Miane near Treviso, in which she announced her intention to kill
herself.
The woman had reportedly been experiencing psychological
distress for some time, accentuated by the fact that she was in
the process of separating from her partner.
Recchia's car was found abandoned in the forecourt of a bar near
the Vidor bridge.
The bodies were found on the island in the Piave River
downstream from the bridge.
