German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on
Monday said "unfriendly attacks, hostile takeovers are not a
good thing for banks", replying to a question on Italian lender
UniCredit raising its stake in German bank Commerzbank on the
sidelines of a visit to NEw York.
The chancellor said the German government had made its position
clear: "We believe that it is not adequate in Europe and in
Germany to proceed with unfriendly methods, without any spirit
of cooperation and without agreeing on anything, to participate
in a company", he concluded.
