There is a risk of the Mafia
infiltrating Italian soccer clubs, National Anti-Mafia
Prosecutor Giovanni Melillo said after AC Milan and Inter Milan
ultra chieftains were arrested Monday in an anti-mafia probe.
The Milan investigation, said the anti-Mob and anti-yterror
chief, demonstrates "the risks of infiltration that are creeping
into professional and non-professional football by organised
crime".
Melillo said the investigation denotes "risks of infiltration in
football clubs" as in other sectors.
"We must stop pretending nothing is happening" about these
risks, he said.
Milan prosecutor Marcello Viola explained that the clubs "are
injured parties" having put in place systems to prevent illicit
activities.
