A large number of illegal souvenir and
food stands were seized at the entrance to Pompeii Monday and 63
people were placed under investigation for the crime of invading
public soil.
Some 46 illegal kiosks and gazebos near the entrances to the
Pompeii excavations were sequestered by the Carabinieri in
Piazza Esedra, Piazza Anfiteatro and Via Roma.
Officers from Torre Annunziata executed a preventive seizure
order against 63 people under investigation for the crime of
invasion.
The measure mainly concerned kiosks and gazebos for the sale of
souvenirs, but also bars and ice cream parlors that crowd the
area.
